From laconically strummed guitar to powerful percussive string lade epics.
Described as a miniature indie orchestra, their line-up includes violin, cello and French horn alongside guitars, piano and percussion. They have been drawing comparisons to Nick Cave, Radiohead and Arab Strap. Earlier Ep releases have received a fair amount of specialist show airplay and have gained several diverse licenses from BBC drama to a MTV campaign. This crackin’ debut album on Static Caravan delivers eleven accessible and alluring acoustic post-rock anthems.
Title track ”From The Ground Up” builds beautifully from a laconically strummed guitar intro into a powerful string laden percussive epic. The real standout track here is the expansive “These Quiet Times”, an instantly memorable classic that Chris Martin probably wishes he wrote. This is a love song set in the English winter, leaves and snow falling on the fields, the frost-dappled piano and stark, bare strings are particularly evocative in this pastoral symphony.
