Read Description:

A winning blend of US indie, ‘70s melancholia and twisted folk-pop.

Windmill – aka 28-year old Matthew Thomas Dillon – is emerging as one of the country’s best singer-songwriters, his music a heady distillation of US indie, early ‘70s melancholia and twisted folk-pop. Echoing the greats of US indie – Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips, Built To Spill, and Guided By Voices– and the stars of the Canadian scene, Arcade Fire, Windmill’s debut, “Puddle City Racing Lights”, is a record that demands repeat plays.

Following on from countless homemade demos, Matthew whipped up a storm of lush strings, clashing percussion and cacophonous vocals together with his crack team of established musicians, and co-producer Tom Knott. As summarised by Mr Windmill himself- "Piano, huge drums and finding a different way of saying things – that’s Windmill to me."

Returning in 2009 with follow-up “Epcot Starfields” Dillon has utilised a pivotal childhood trip to Florida’s EPCOT centre as the inspiration for his entire second album. The “mesmerising theatricality” and “wild, imaginative ideas” of this experience clearly captivated the young Dillon, and those familiar with his debut, will already be aware of his fascination with limitless ideas. “Epcot Starfields” is expansive, imaginative and utterly unparalleled. The sweeping phrases and underlying driving beat create the feeling of being lifted, and the lush orchestral arrangements are perfectly complimented by the use of xylophone and such a characterful vocal.
