Softly spoken, charming folk-pop with floating trumpet melodies and a blanket of guitars.
This is the debut full-length release for both The Rosie Taylor Project (named after a childhood crush), and much-loved Leeds indie label Bad Sneakers Records. These are heartfelt, observational songs of love and loss built around beautiful melodies and infectious hooks, already championed by Marc Riley and seen on MTV 2. Their sound evokes the gentle qualities of Nick Drake, but it’s their delicate simplicity and self-understanding which stands out and connects to the listener.
The melancholic deep trumpet on “The Sun On My Right” is inspired, somehow the disarming understatement drives us towards that illusive border even though there could be stormy weather ahead. “A Good Café On George Street” has a fresh, upbeat breezy air, this is life seen through the steamy windows of cafes and from the corners of paintings. Winter sets in during “Black And White Films” as an old film plays on the TV in a world losing its warmth and vitality as the nights draw in. This band may be guilty of being romantic but their catchy songs will connect to everybody.
