Funky metallic drums, echoing diva samples and wonky bass lines builing up one infectious NYC groove.
Made up of members of NYC based punk/funkers !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) and James Murphy's LCD Soundsystem, Out Hud, are every bit as exciting as you'd expect. The band formed in the late 90's in their native Boston and spread their wings playing across the states. An adolescent need for high a octane energy rush led them to them to shun any notion of Strokes mania and instead making a blitzing dance soundtrack for your head and more importantly your hips! With a sound heavily indebted to the likes of Public Image Ltd, there are nods towards the sounds of U.K punk/funk, Chicago House and good times NYC hip - hop, looking backwards but never sounding retrospective the music is fresh energetic and great fun. Their energetic live performances welded together by !!!'s mix master Justin Van Der Volgen on record are capable of reducing any dance floor to a pool of sweat and good vibes.
We've got hold of their second album, 2005's all night dance-a-thon "Let Us Never Speak Of It Again" and it lives up to all the expectations you'd expect from such a roll call of the punk/funk masters. Having to stop the foot tapping and think which our fave's were is tricky but we've got it down to two storming party tracks for you to enjoy. To start with is the lead single from the album, "It's For You" bounces out of your speakers combining all the best bits of LCD Soundsystem and ESG, funky metallic drums, echoing diva samples and wonky bass lines builing up one infectious groove, upbeat and catchy as the Tom Tom Club. "How Long" is a musical tribute to NYC borrowing Afrika Bambaataa's robotic breaks and playing them under Chic bass lines, so damn funky that even Bootsy Collins would blush. With a hint of Moroder's space fixation and the best piano vamps from a lofts worth of old Chicago 12"s this is truly one to get spliced up with some of your cooler ads.
