Remarkably musical, intriguingly textured and affecting melodic pop.
Formed in London in 1992, the highly esteeemed High Llamas have continuously incorporated jazz and orchestral elements into their beloved brand of laidback melodic pop. Borrowing heavily from the pop music of the 50’s through to the 70’s, their sound is one that draws noticeable comparisons to The Beach Boys, Jimmy Webb, John Barry and Bernard Herman. Following on from 2000’s “Buzzle Bee”, “Beet, Maize & Corn” embues an expansive and acoustic sound that has garnered them a reputation for writing string arrangements for groups such as The Super Furry Animals, Doves and the Boo Radleys. Notably, they also provided the soundtrack for the US feature film "Sunburn".
Remarkably musical, intriguingly textured and affecting, the High Llamas sound is one that casts visions of tropical paradises and warm sunsets, beautiful pop with a touch of class that’s rarely found. “Leaf and Lime” is a slice of romantic nostalgia with plucked string sections, colorful instrumentation and resonant vocals surrounded with clouds of breathtaking background harmonies. “The Click and the Fizz” overflows with pastoral beauty, deep orchestral movements and delicate acoustic guitar strumming, conjuring visions of long summertime evenings spent admiring the sunset without a care in the world...

"Packed with vividly coloured melodies, these songs have a luminous quality and richness of texture with gluttonous excess." The Guardian
