Raw un-calculated garage punk crossed with pristine chorus led indie pop. Party.
Young British Artists are hip art-rockers, yet they shun the chin-stroking underground scene, leaning further in the direction of stadium rock, and this is not a bad thing. The music walks a fine balance between raw un-calculated garage punk and pristine chorus led indie pop. ‘Million Miles’ could easily be a mainstream indie hit, if not for the subdued distorted vocals of lead singer Sebastian Mariner. The lack of emphasis on lyrics and vocals creates a mystery to the band that translates into the instrumentation (as can be heard in the instrumental version). The music is accessible enough for untrained ears whilst keeping a firm grasp of what’s hot and what’s hip – they are hot, and they are hip.
