Description:

Beautiful, cinematic folk-noir storytelling.

London based musician and producer Daniel Lea is enchanted by the forgotten narratives of yesterday. Trawling the past for visual and lyrical inspiration, gathering snippets from forgotten histories, By The Fireside is his music box and storytelling vehicle.

Inspired by dialogue and imagery from old noir classics, world cinema and the silent era, Daniel Lea welds unique influences into his music. Following on from previous success (Rough Trade declared his first EP one of the best of the year), Lea returns with "Day Of The Burning", a limited edition mini album on Red Deer Recordings. Warm, woozy harmonies and ghost note guitar crescendos bring to mind the energy of Sonic Youth and Krautrock with a cinematic atmosphere. At times as chilling as he is comforting, Lea's fragile voice can render you breathless on first listen, and yet fill your heart with a rosy glow.

'Moon Lake' is an understated, dreamy affair, 'Her Spirit Knows' teams Lea's trademark whispered vocals with sumptuous strings and a sprinkle of warm electronics, and 'Now The Fire's Gone' provides a swell of courage with a rotating piano line and driving beat.
