Genre-blending spacey '60s-style pop meets 21st-century lo-fi.
Toro Y Moi (a.k.a. Columbia, South Carolina’s Chaz Bundick) is a multi-cultural juggernaut gathering up the best musical elements from around the globe – R&B, Indie Rock, Electronic Dance and Psychedelica – and creating something-freaking-else! Over the course of his first groundbreaking full length “Causers of This”, Toro Y Moi turns the aforementioned musics upside-down with his innovative approach. Operating in the same area of spacey lo-fi lusciousness as Animal Collective, melodic ambient samples swirl around cleverly arranged pop-song structures. The incendiary power of Toro Y Moi’s funky synth and guitar play, pumping digital rhythms and gorgeously bright vocal harmonies make for a formidable combination. Already featured on a new Skins trailer and being hyped by erm…everybody, Toro Y Moi is definitely one to keep your eye on.
Listen to ‘Low Shoulder’ for sunny, euphoric pop with an edge, ‘Blessa’ for smooth, velvety vocal samples, and an irresistible laid back beat.
"The next contender to the Passion Pit throne...his wide-ranging musical influences make for a multi-faceted, all-encompassing debut." Clash
"The imaginative scope of this debut shows why expectations have been raised, his hazy soundscapes and blurred falsetto recalling Animal Collective's more strung-out moments..." Q Magazine
"Rooted in the 80s pop MOR of Hall and Oats, Kenny Loggins and the like. But budget keyboard presets and filtered, treble-heavy production gives is an endearingly woozy, lo-fi feel." Uncut
