Off-kilter folk full of pastoral charm and playfulness
Nick Duffy is a musician, illustrator and filmmaker hailing from Birmingham, England. His sound mixes elements of folk, blue grass and world music . Throughout his career he worked as a solo artist as well as in collaborations. This includes the formation of folk-pop band “The Lilac Time”, which he began with his brother Stephen Duffy in 1987. He is able to play a variety of instruments including banjo, violin, melodica, accordion and bouzoki.
Track “Lanugo” features an accordian melody that flows beautifully and is backed up by delicate percussion. It would feel right at home within Jean-Pierre Jeunets’ Améie. Meanwhile track “Turtlebeans” holds a sense of playfulness and charm featuring a simple upbeat recorder melody that is teamed with soft keys. This drives the song along whilst the rhythmic percussion shuffles lightly in the background. "Shepard's Plaid" is another track which possesses a bright feel, opening up with intricate riffs on the banjo that act as the focal point, as the track progresses the instrumentation is built up, including whistling ,which contributes further to the joyous mood.
