Exquisite harmonies and home-made sounds create this swirling electronic folk.
East London's Dark Captain Light Captain came together in early 2006 fuelled by a love for folkish sounds, black coffee and (luckily for us) incessant late night bedroom recording sessions. Debut album "Miracle Kicker's" stand out tracks include dark lullaby "Spontaneous Combustion", the acoustic bliss of “Circles” and "Jealous Enemies" - a younger, more beautiful and energised sister to Radiohead's In Rainbows, and a massive surprise hit on US iTunes. The exquisite harmonies and home-made sounds make this swirling electronic folk an instant new friend, then the mournful undertow pulls you in even deeper. A lesson in how to lure them with the sweet before you get them with the bitter.
Now in late 2011, Dark Captain (they've now lost the Light Captain) have a great new album “Dead Legs & Alibis” and their first single “Submarines”, is a beautiful, wistful number indebted to Fleetwood Mac circa Mirage, which would suggest that only the name has changed, and the sound we know and love so much remains same. With a sound comparable to the likes of King Creosote – combining acoustic elements with melancholic pop harmonies - the acclaimed East London five-piece will draw you into a near trance, letting your thoughts drift away into the open. Gorgeous stuff!
