Pop melodies, R&B beats and lush multi layered harmonies.
Originally conceived as a guitar based project, NZCA- LINES has been transformed into a suave, synth-pop sensation. This has been achieved with fellow LOAF/LO label-mate Charlie Alex March lending a hand with the production and Ash Workman (Simian Mobile Disco Club, Metronomy etc) being responsible for the mixing. So what does that mean in the grand scheme of things? With these two behind the mixing desk together with main man Michael Lovett they’ve created what is bound to be one of the most thrilling debut albums of the year.
From the opening bars it’s clear that there’s a unique and beautiful talent at work with the clarity of the arrangements, the crisp harmonies and insidious melodies that set it apart from all other releases. It contains shimmering slices of dream pop the like of which have not been heard since Scritti Politti’s ‘Cupid & Psyche’ , following one after another to create a future world rooted in timeless magic. Think of it as a musical teleportation system beaming sounds and vibrations from different eras into the present whilst at the same time projecting them into the future. Look out 2012, with a significant amount of press attention already gained we’re definitely putting NZCA/Lines under a “One’s to watch” heading!
